I saw Gun Outfit last night at Echo Curio

They were everything I wanted them to be. The gold room before/after was definitely fun as well, pbr and a shot for 4 bucks???? get out of town! Gun Outfit played a great set, they were loud composed and to the point. This band Residual Echoes also played, I saw them play with Bipolar Bear a few weeks ago at the Smell and was somewhat impressed. They were decent last night, I probably would of enjoyed them more if their singer wasn't a total asshole. He was probably pissed that the room cleared out for them after Gun Outfit.

Ty Segall 7" on Goner Records!!

7.8 out of 10

Wow, I dig it! I just realized that most of the records I review have fairly high reviews, this is because I actually buy all these records and can't afford to buy records that "blow". Please don't let this effect my credibility. This one in particular certainly does not "blow," it's fantastic! And the record is colored by hand with crayons, wonderful. I wish I knew more about this guy so I could write a more educational article, I know he used to play in a band called Party Fowl on PPM. He puts out records on several cool labels including Kill Shaman and Goner Records and has played with The Oh Sees and Jay Reatard(RIP). It's a great Garage/Psychedelic record. I hear alot of late 70's punk in this record Eater, Adverts, and every Killed By Death band. I will be buying much more of his stuff from here on....

Bipolar Bear/Talbot Tagora Split 10"

6.9 out of 10
Label- Ol Factory Records
Released- 2009
Format- 10" vinyl w/download

This was definitely a easy buy for me, I've wanted to pick up both bands records for a while so a split 10" with both bands for only nine bucks seemed like quite the deal. Bipolar Bear is a band from LA that seems to be the loudest band to come out of the Smell for quite some time. With the whole lo-fi singer songwriter thing that's blowing up it's nice to come across a band that proceeds to blow your brains out with sound. They also run a pretty legitimate record label called Kill Shaman Records. I recently saw them live and was very impressed, my favorite part of the band is their Shellac like bass tone and hard hitting drummer. Talbot Tagora is a band from Seattle, WA that has the whole Abe Vigoda tropical punk thing going on. The songs between the two bands are very similar, the biggest difference is the slamming bass tone from Bipolar Bear and the complete lack of a bass player in Talbot Tagora. We'll see in time which side gets played more, right now its the Bipolar Bear side.

I ripped one song from each side for you, enjoy!

Gun Outfit

Gun Outfit is a band that came out this past year from Olympia WA. Gun Outfit since then have become of a favorite on my turntable. For some reason you don't hear too much about them on the the buzz sites. Right now "indie" means a catchy non-offensive group of well dressed handsome young men/women on a indie label that makes more money than most major labels. Sign a band then spoon feed them onto college radio, smack them all over filter and paste and then land them a lexus commercial, its a full proof plan which I admire and respect but it doesn't really make me excited about punk rock music. Gun Outfit is a hard working blue collar band probably making no money and eating really cheap shitty food. They're a perfect mix of The Meat Puppets, Dinosaur Jr, and well......Gun Outfit!!! I feel like I have to make a public service announcement about this band! Please check they're dates, they're probably playing a house/hall/vegan grocery store near you!
They have a 7" and a wonderful LP titled "DIM LIGHT" out on PPM.

Fugazi Bootleg 7"

How sick is this thing?! I came across it a few months ago and had to pick it up. It contains two tracks taken from a live radio broadcast in Holland. I'm assuming this is from the early 90's due to the song choices. Above all this bootleg showcases how good of a live band Fugazi really was. I dare you to find these tracks anywhere else on the internet, I assure it will be quite difficult. The rough sound quality is from the actually recording itself not the vinyl rip, but if you can get thru it the listening experience will be quite enjoyable. Go ahead and stream the tracks below or click on the link to download them for yourself.
Side A- "Repeater"

Side B- "Return Runaway"

Stay tuned for a Dinosaur Jr. bootleg next!

NEW VINYL RIPS ADDED

Check my older reviews for some more vinyl rips. I added some. Yeah.

I put up the Best Coast and Wounded Lion rips. I'm working on the Infinite Body rip now. Cheers.

Dum Dum Girls- Jail La La 7"

7.8 out of 10

With the recent lo-fi/garage/shoegaze explosion it seems like these all female lo-fi fuzz bands are just falling out of the sky. The groups that have been getting the most attention are Vivian Girls, Best Coast, and of course Dum Dum Girls. In my opinion I think Dum Dum Girls might just have them all beat! The band definitely possesses some great song writing skills and the girls can all actually sing quite well, unlike some of their peers. This 7" contains the first single from their Sub Pop debut album "I Will Be" which hits stores March 30th. The B-side "Play With Fire" is a nice change from the up-beat sing along A-side "Jail La La". "Play With Fire" showcases the bands more shoegaze side, which I love. The track starts with a fuzzy tremelo guitar kicking into an almost My Bloody Valentine type jam. Overall this 7" totally rocks, these girls have their shit together! The band has some previous releases on Captured Tracks, and Art Fag Recordings. In addition to the Sub Pop debut coming out at the end of the month, Dum Dum Girls have a cassette tape EP coming out very soon on Art Fag.

You can order the 7" or preorder the LP here:

You can also preorder the cassette tape "blissed" here:

For your listening pleasure I went ahead and ripped the A-side "Jail La La," you can stream it below.

Infinite Body- "Carve Out The Face Of My God"

Label: PPM
Format: 12" LP
Released: Feb. 2o1o

9.0 out of 10

Infinite Body consists of Los Angeles resident Kyle Parker who has been a consistent face in the LA noise scene for several years. Infinite Body has released a few limited 12"s previously, this being the first for PPM. I will usually give anything put out on PPM a listen and this time it turned out to be quite rewarding. This is a tragically beautiful album all around, covering most human emotions. The first track "Dive" comes crashing in with a full "Berlin Wall" of noise and fuzz only to uncover a beautiful melody lying underneath. Parker takes beautiful melodies and sands them down to the core without picking up the shavings and debris. I suggest you go pick up this record immediately and try to catch him on tour if possible.
